As our nation continues to navigate uncertainty and complex challenges, we remain grounded in the belief that collective organizing is essential to advancing meaningful change for students and families across California.

We are calling on California legislators to provide additional resources to schools and districts serving high-need communities.

California’s current funding formula is tied to student attendance—when students miss school, schools lose funding, even as they work harder to re-engage students and get them back into classrooms. On January 6, the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) released a study affirming that the state’s attendance-based (ADA) funding model alone is not enough. Schools serving higher-need students require sustained, targeted investment to meet growing academic, social-emotional, and mental health needs.

We are urging legislators in Sacramento to:

  • Increase targeted funding for districts and schools serving higher-need student populations

  • Invest in research-backed strategies to improve attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism

  • Expand access to school-based mental health professionals, counselors, and community partners

  • Ensure funding solutions are equitable, sustainable, and responsive to local needs

  • Every student deserves access to a well-resourced, supportive, and thriving public school. Our communities cannot wait.

Stand with families and educators and urge lawmakers to invest in the schools and students who need it most by signing our petition!
